Stress: Even at the best of times, life can feel really stressful. Between work, finances, health, family — it can all add up, and this impacts our quality of life. Working with a counsellor can help you explore the different areas contributing to your stress, develop coping strategies to feel more balanced, and integrate self-care practices into your daily life. 

Life Transitions: Change is the only constant, whether planned or not, and facing the uncertainty of the future can be daunting. Counselling can help you uncover personal strengths and resources to empower you through changes, build hope and optimism about your future, while being a safe place to voice your fears and worries.  

Personal Growth : Understanding who you are and why you do the things you do can be a powerful step in living a more meaningful, embodied life. Counselling can help you learn more about your personal values, what motivates your decision making, and the beliefs you hold that may be serving you and those that may be self-limiting. 

Perfectionism, People Pleasing, and Low Self Esteem: These are examples of self-limiting beliefs that can subconsciously develop over time. Working with a counsellor can help you to learn where these beliefs stem from and what role they play in your life, practical tools to challenge them, and live a life filled with self-acceptance and self-compassion. 

Anxiety: Anxiety can take many different forms, from racing thoughts, to panic, to uncontrollable worry. In any case, anxiety can leave you feeling exhausted, out of control, and at your wit’s end. Depression: Like a cloud constantly over your head, depression can make what was once simple and enjoyable seem impossible and leave you with no motivation. Reclaiming energy, regaining hope for the future, and learning to live an intentional life are possible through individualized counselling. 

Pregnancy and Postpartum: The journey to becoming a mother is life changing — beautiful and uniquely challenging. Feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and inadequate is not uncommon. Working with a counsellor can help you navigate the ups and downs of your journey through fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, relationship changes and parenting, as well as finding support through reproductive loss. 

Trauma: Trauma can occur in many different forms, all of which can be difficult to process, and may leave you with unresolved feelings or challenges. With a counsellor, you can set the pace to safely explore your experiences, process thoughts, feelings, and sensations related to your experiences, and learn self-regulation techniques to reestablish balance in your nervous system. 

 

PRECONCEPTION Counselling

 


The preconception phase of your fertility journey can be both an exciting and stressful time.

Clinical counselling can be a helpful tool in your journey towards pregnancy by providing you with a supportive environment to talk through your hopes, worries, fears, and dreams, while also learning coping techniques to manage stress, creating a holistic, well-rounded approach to preconception health when used alongside the other preconception services at AltaVie Health.

Baby is here, and while you’re overflowing with love, feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and inadequate is not uncommon. And you don’t have to go through it alone — working with our clinical counsellor can help you navigate this new season of life and all the feelings that may come up.

From parenting and relationship changes, self-doubt and fears, body changes, to postpartum depression, our counselling practice uses evidence-based techniques and a relational, strengths-based philosophy to offer you support. Of course, baby is welcome to sit in on the session.
