Miranda Harper NICU (RN) . IBCLC
Miranda is a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), Postpartum Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Miranda’s passion is supporting expecting families and those adjusting to life with newborns. She is dedicated to supporting new parents with their feeding goals and ensuring the family unit is educated and supported through a holistic approach. Miranda prioritizes education and believes that expectant parents should gain knowledge about infant feeding prior to the birth of their baby. In her NICU and postpartum nursing, Miranda has supported countless dyads and infants of every walk of life including extremely premature infants, infants born with genetic differences and infants who have endured surgery among healthy, term babies. Miranda has endured her own feeding struggles with both of her son’s and desires to support the Okanagan community with their infant feeding.
Education
Miranda completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing through the University of British Columbia Okanagan in 2018. During school, Miranda was employed as an Employed Student Nurse in White Rock at Peace Arch Hospital in the maternity unit. Her love for supporting families grew and after graduating she got her first position as a Postpartum New Graduate Nurse at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. After gaining some experience, she decided that she wanted to specialize in Neonatal Intensive Care. She joined the NICU team at BC Women’s Hospital and completed her NICU specialization through BCIT in 2019. During her first maternity leave, Miranda decided to pursue her Lactation Consultant education to become an IBCLC. Miranda moved back to the Okanagan and worked in the NICU at Kelowna General Hospital while pregnant with her second son. On her second maternity leave, Miranda wrote her IBCLC exam and is excited to support families in the Okanagan with their feeding goals.
